First Treatment Info


To help ensure a successful appointment please:

  • Arrive for your appointment 10-15 minutes in advance to fill out your health history form (or see links below to complete in advance). New Patient Treatments may take 1- 1.5 hours. Follow up visits usually, require .5 - 1 hour.

  • Please wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing that you can roll up past your knees and elbows.

  • Eat before you come. We can't do acupuncture if you have an empty stomach.



Please be quiet and whisper.  Turn off or silence your cell phone. You have entered a peaceful space.

  • Check-in at the desk.

  • Fill out a detailed health history form (or see links below to complete in advance). Review and sign the Informed Consent and Notice of Privacy Practices forms.

  • Consultation: You will then review your health history, issues and goals with the practitioner. The practitioner may take your pulse, examine your tongue and palpate areas of your body to identify tender spots and do orthopedic testing.

  • Traditional Acupuncture Treatment: Proceed to the communal treatment room.

  • Hang up your jacket. Remove your shoes and put on a pair of slippers. and place your belongings under your chair.

  • Choose from any open chair or table. Place your belongings under your chair.  Remove your socks and slippers.

  • Prepare to relax

  • Needles are generally placed in the arms and legs but might also be placed in other locations.  All needles are sterile, single-use, non-toxic and disposable.

  • Relax!  After the needles are applied most patients feel a sense of deep relaxation. Treatments typically last from 20min to an hour.

  • Needles out: At some point, you will feel yourself becoming more awake. Your eyes will open and you will feel "ready" for the needles to come out. At this point make eye contact with your practitioner and they will remove your needles.

  • Check out: Take your belongings and return to the front desk.

  • Orthopedic Acupuncture: You will be lead to the private room.

  • Some combination of Motor Point/Trigger Point and electo-acupuncture will be applied based on your intake.

  • Massage and Reiki also take place in your private room.


All new Traditional Acupuncture and Orthopedic Acupuncture patients must fill out an in-depth medical history and have an initial consultation to ensure a proper diagnosis and effective treatment. New Massage, Reiki & Cupping patients do not need a special NEW PERSON appointment 



MUA prefers a 24-hour cancellation notice. Please call or reschedule/cancel online at least 4 hours before your appointment time. Please inform us if you are not coming. If you fail to show up for an appointment credit card information will be required in order to make future appointments. No shows with failure to call will be charged the full price of treatment to your credit card.


New patients, please arrive at least 10 min before your appointment time. Returning patients please arrive at least 5 min before your appointment time.  If you arrive late for your appointment your treatment may be shortened due to scheduling and you will be charged for the appointment you reserved.
